A Global Cancer Care Site
Strategising the online presence for GenesisCare across their markets
Date: Jan - July 2020
Role: Product designer

I worked with with a team to launch and maintain GenesisCare's site in the UK, Australia, USA, and Spain. We worked with the client to merge data from recent acquisitions and create an online experience that was consistent across regions. In addition to me, the team consisted of: a visual designer, 2 developers, a project manager, and a design director. I was responsible for merging content from acquisitions, designing the doctor portal, optimising existing components, and maintaining the design system.
A Big Merge
Our engagement with GenesisCare was defined by merging sites they had for different parts of the business, content from acquisitions, and medical information that was used for print. Our challenge was to combine many types of information into a simple, meaningful, and scalable site.
This information included: medical centre pages, knowledge articles, medical trial reports, cancer care information, and a doctor portal. The breadth and variety of the data meant there was over 500 pages per market.

Starting with Architecture
A team of us distilled 100s of pages from different parts of the business and created simple information architectures. Two for each market (AU, UK, USA, ES): customer and doctor facing. This helped guide their content editors as they wrote content for the site. There was a task of balancing the business jargon with recognisable terms, i.e. "patient services" vs "treatments".

Single Source of Truth
Producing a comprehensive and customisable component library was essential to the success of this work as the team hit the ground running designing and developing pages. This library's purpose was to be consistent across the 100s of pages and provide components that made medical information easy to understand.
Design System for Scale
To bring the components to life we produced a design system website for content creators in the business to use as a resource when they were building pages in the CMS. We made templates for every type of page in the information architecture to ensure content could be added quickly as the site scaled. They currently use this design system site to support content creation and onboard new staff.
